I’m still recovering from my three-day drive home after visiting my parents, so today I’ll be posting a rough draft of a triolet from my poem-a-day challenge. Articles shall resume as normal next week, or possibly on Thursday.

NaNoWriMo 2014: Excerpt Four
For the next four weeks two weeks, I’ll be participating in NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month. The following is an excerpt from my project, The Thrilling Adventures of Clara Delaney; or, the Misfortunes of Isaac Rowe.
I’m having a lot of fun writing combat at the moment, but this scene was just too silly not to throw in there…
NaNoWriMo 2014: Excerpt Three

This passage is what happens when I run out of ideas, had a tough day at a somewhat unfriendly school, and frankly just want to write something silly.
The heroes have just returned from R&R on an alien planet to find their spaceship missing.
NaNoWriMo 2014, Excerpt Two

I’m about 15,000 words in as of writing this; by the time it’s published I should be over halfway done. So far it’s been an amazingly fun write. I’ve been learning exactly how hard it is to write funny stuff, and currently have a whole (completely useless) chapter where all the characters do is throw a kegger and get drunk.
Safe to say, I’m enjoying myself.

I feel I should mention that I don’t have as many quotes in the rest of the book, but I really like this scene.
Of Little Consequence
This Thursday we’re taking a quick break from Codon while I work through some personal business. The following is a chapter from a novel I’ve been working on for a long time. Continue reading
Codon, Part Five: Complex Grammar.
This week’s Thursday post is a very late Friday post due to some unforeseen personal drama.
Codon is a language I am currently inventing based (loosely) off the rules governing RNA. It consists of a 64-word vocabulary. This week, we flesh out our grammar a little. Next week we’ll finish up with a writing system.
Conlanging: Codon, Part Four.

This week, we start in on the complicated process of creating the skeleton of a grammar. Next week, we’ll flesh that grammar out some, and in our final entry we’ll tie it all together with a writing system and a few language exercises.
Conlanging: Codon, Part Three.

This week, we go into some of the more arcane parts of speech as we choose vocabulary concepts. Next week will be grammar, and the final entry will deal with creating a writing system.
Conlanging: Codon, Part Two.
Part one (introduction and how to structure the vocabulary) can be found here.
Part three (a continuation of vocab building) can be found here.
This week, we’ll generate some common words and decide on what concepts those words will represent. A disclaimer: I love language but I’m no linguist. If something in here is incorrect, feel free to let me know in the comments. Continue reading
